Halifax Marathon runner raises £1,000 for a great cause
The manager of Leeds Building Society’s Halifax branch raised £1,000 for a mental health charity by taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon.
Damien Briscoe successfully completed the Marathon in four hours and 17 minutes and raised £1,000 for Mind - including £380 in matched funding from Leeds Building Society.
It’s a cause close to Damien’s heart as his wife is a mental health nurse, and some of his friends and family have been affected by mental health issues.
Damien said: “My official finishing time wasn’t quite as good as hoped due to suffering from cramp after 20 miles, and being slowed down by strong head winds. However, I completed the Marathon and that is the most important thing.
“I am delighted to have raised £1,000 in total, and would like to thank everyone who has sponsored me and Leeds Building Society for providing matched funding.
“I am planning to enter another Marathon by the end of the year, and have applied for the 2016 London Marathon to raise further funds for Mind.”
