Louise leads the way on Leeds volunteering scheme
A member of Leeds Building Society’s Intermediary mortgage team chose a volunteering opportunity which combined her passion for horses and a charity which helps others enjoy riding.
Louise Drummond, the mutual’s Business Development Manager in Scotland, volunteered at Kinfauns Stables Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) in Perthshire.
“I own a horse myself and very much enjoy riding. My cousin’s son has autism, attends the RDA and really enjoys it. This gave me the idea to contact them for a volunteering day,” said Louise.
She was taking advantage of the Society’s volunteering scheme, which allows all colleagues a day’s paid leave each year to help a good cause of their choice in the community.
Her duties included bringing the horses in from the field and getting them ready for their lessons. This involved grooming horses and putting on their saddles and tack.
Louise added: “The morning session was with children with disabilities, where I had to lead the horses round while the children had their lesson. There was then another session in the afternoon involving adults with different disabilities.
“As a building society, we are owned by our members and are pleased to support good causes in the communities where we and our members live and work.”
