Using the Albion Cheque Account

The Albion Cheque Account is easy to use, either by post or by calling into any of our branches.

The following information will help you to get things running smoothly.

Regular payments from your account

Let the convenience of standing orders and Direct Debits take the pain out of paying regular bills. These can be paid easily by Direct Debit or standing order. You can also use a standing order to transfer funds to another account. To set up a standing order write to Banking Services, call our helpline on 0113 225 7755 or visit one of our branches.

For any Direct Debit simply contact the organisation you want to pay. They will send out the instructions and you will need to return completed forms to them. You can change or cancel payment instructions on your Albion Cheque Account at any Leeds Building Society branch. Alternatively, send your instructions direct to Banking Services.

Information about the Direct Debit Guarantee:

  • This Guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that take part in the Direct Debit Scheme. The efficiency and security of the Scheme is monitored and protected by your own bank or building society.
  • If the amount to be paid or the payment dates change the organisation will notify you normally 10 working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed.
  • If an error is made by the organisation or your bank or building society, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your branch of the amount paid.
  • You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by writing to your bank or building society. Please also send a copy of your letter to the organisation.

Making payments into your account

Cheques can be paid in at any Leeds Building Society branch or you can send them by post using the pre-paid envelopes provided. The Society will not be liable for any items lost in the post.

Cheques being paid into the account should be crossed ‘account payee only’ and made payable to:

  • Leeds Building Society for the name(s) in which the account is held; or
  • the account holder(s).

Your account number should be written on the back.

You can withdraw funds on the eighth working day after the cheque is received by us and you will earn interest on cheques paid in from the third bank working day.

The Albion Cheque Account cannot accept payments in the form of cash (either sterling or foreign currency), cheques from foreign banks or in foreign currency and foreign currency travellers cheques.
