Society raises £11,000 for Hollybank Trust
Our Colleague Charity Group raised £11,000 towards communication equipment for a charity which supports visually impaired children. Hollybank Trust will use this donation towards purchasing equipment allowing visually impaired children to improve their communication experience and gain more independence.
Three Society colleagues visited Hollybank School in Mirfield to get an insight into the work undertaken by the charity.
Jeanette Cartwright, Customer Liaison Manager, said: “Most of the children at Hollybank are unable to speak, and some are visually impaired, but the staff use big coloured buttons with pre-recorded messages on to help each child engage with the group. These big buttons are also programmed to activate their electronic devices, lights and games encouraging them to be as independent as they can.
“The atmosphere at Hollybank is always happy and cheerful, the enthusiasm and compassion the carers show each child is overwhelming. It makes me feel proud that the funds raised by my colleagues have helped to make every day experiences, which we take for granted, into new and exciting ones for the children.”
