We understand that deciding how to save for your future or buying a home are two of the most important financial decisions you’ll ever take.
When it comes to building up a nest egg, our experienced colleagues in our branches across the country can help if you want a safe place to put a lump sum, or if you just want to talk about how you can secure your family’s financial future.
And if you want to get on the property ladder, our Direct Mortgage Unit colleagues can help if you need advice for a mortgage or an additional loan. Plus, our Knowledge Base is here to help you make informed decisions on your financial options or to give useful information on the homebuying process.
Our savings range was recognised with a commendation in the High Street Savings Provider of the Year category at the 2021 Moneyfacts Consumer Awards 2021 and a Fairer Finance Gold Ribbon for Savings, too.

Talking to our members is something we’ve been doing since 1845, and we pride ourselves on our open and honest approach. They’re a great place to pop in to get friendly, straightforward savings advice from our trained and knowledgeable colleagues.
But we also know things can change in life – and sometimes this means dealing with unexpected changes to your finances along the way. That's where we can help, too. If you fall behind with mortgage payments – or you’re worried you might do – our Mortgage Services colleagues are there to talk about it. Together, we can work out what your best options are and which steps to take next. Find out the support available on our website.

3. Helping you to help the planet
We recognise that climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing us all.
That’s why we’ve put together a handy guide which tells you all you need to know about climate change and how you can play your part to make a difference.
It includes useful tips and information on:
- Things you can do to make your home more energy efficient and reduce your carbon footprint, such as getting an Energy Performance Certificate, insulating your home and using LED lightbulbs
- Other ways you can live a greener life outside of your home such as going electric and thinking about your food miles
We’re also playing our part as a Society to reduce our carbon footprint – we’ve recently achieved carbon neutral status for Scope 1 & 2 emissions, and Scope 3 emissions (business travel) - we’ve done this a year earlier than planned.
