LBS Supports Heart Research UK's Treasure Chest Appeal

Emmerdale star Verity Rushworth has been helping staff at Leeds Building Society's Head Office and branches clear their drawers of their old unwanted and broken jewellery to turn into cash for Yorkshire-based national charity Heart Research UK.

Staff at the Society's 64 UK branches, and Head Office in Leeds, will be asking their family, friends and customers to do the same to add to the charity's Treasure Chest Appeal where necklaces, cufflinks, watches and other jewellery will be collected by Bonhams and sold to raise money for the charity.

Their support for the campaign coincides with National Recycling Week, in June, and Heart Research UK is hoping that other companies will sign up and support their year-round Appeal.

Verity Rushworth, who has recently returned to our screens on ITV soap Emmerdale as Donna Windsor, was on hand to support the mutual's efforts and was happy to encourage others to support Heart Research UK.

Verity said: "This is such a simple and easy way to support people who benefit from the work that Heart Research UK funds. I hope that more companies will contact the charity and lend their support."

Heart Research UK National Director, Barbara Harpham, said: "It's great that Leeds Building Society staff are supporting our Treasure Chest campaign. Everyone has unwanted or broken jewellery and watches at home which can be easily turned into funds via our campaign to help our work in the prevention, treatment and cure of heart disease."

Kim Rebecchi, Leeds Building Society Sales and Marketing Director said, "We are really pleased to get involved in this terrific initiative to raise funds for a fantastic cause. Our colleagues at Head Office in Leeds, and across our national branch network, are enthusiastic about this campaign, and getting involved is great fun and very straightforward. I'm sure we all have old jewellery that we no longer wear, and we are confident of securing a significant collection."
