Generous Leeds Building Society members donate £25,000 to Marie Curie Cancer Care
Dianne Hughes, a Marie Curie nurse in West Yorkshire, joined the charity's Leeds community fundraiser, Hannah Saxon, to accept a £25,000 donation from Leeds Building Society.
These vital funds will go towards helping Marie Curie nurses provide more free care to people with terminal illnesses across Yorkshire, in their own homes and in the charity's Bradford hospice.
The £25,000 is a joint donation from Leeds Building Society's Caring Saver and Your Interest in Theirs schemes. The first part of the donation, for £20,000, is from the Your Interest in Theirs scheme, which works by members agreeing to forego up to 99p of their interest each year. These funds are then split equally between the Society's four charity partners. The second part of the donation, worth £5,000, is from the mutual donating 1% of the average balances in all Caring Saver accounts equally between these same four charity partners.
The presentation took place at Leeds Building Society's Head Office branch, where Dianne and Hannah accepted the £25,000 donation from Kim Rebecchi, Leeds Building Society's Distribution and Marketing Director.
Kim said: "Caring Saver is the kind of account that appeals to your head as well as your heart. It offers an attractive rate of interest whatever your investment, plus easy access to your money.
"Charity supporters often make donations straight out of their own pocket and that is where the Caring Saver is different, providing customers with a competitive rate of return on their savings and making a difference to people who really need it at the same time.
"The maximum that can be donated through our Your Interest in Theirs scheme is only 99p per account each year but if all our members participate it adds up to an amount that can make a real difference. The money is split equally between our four partner charities on the same date as the rest of the interest is credited to their account."
Drane, Partnership Manager at Marie Curie Cancer Care said: "£25,000 is a huge donation and we're extremely grateful to Leeds Building Society and their members as these vital funds will enable Marie Curie to continue to provide a better life for people and their families living with a terminal illness. We have a long-standing relationship with Leeds Building Society and we are looking forward to continuing our work together in the future."
