Leeds Building Society tackles 10 peaks in 10 hours for Samaritans

Eight colleagues from Leeds Building Society will be trekking ten peaks in the Lake District as they try to raise £10,000 for the Society’s charity partner Samaritans.

Leeds Building Society named Samaritans as its charity partner in February 2018 and is aiming to raise £250,000 by March 2020. The money raised will be used to enhance the technology available to volunteers at the 201 Samaritans branches across the UK and Ireland.

Regional Managers Richard Neal, Victoria Zielonko, Simon Newton, Karen Duff, Andy Medling, Chris Ord, are aiming to complete the challenge in just 10 hours on 19 September alongside Head of Branch Network, Graham Binns, and Direct Distribution Manager, Beverley Ives.

The route will see the team walk from Glaramara to Castle Crag, walking Allen Crags, Seathwaite Fell, Great Gable, Green Gable, Brandreth, Grey Knotts, Dale Head and High Spy along the route.

Graham Binns, Head of Branch Network at Leeds Building Society, said: "The start to our partnership with Samaritans has been incredible to see and as a team we try to take on challenges every year that push our boundaries. We’ve previously walked the length of Hadrian’s Wall, cycled the Coast to Coast route and walked the Liverpool to Leeds canal.

“We’ve been in training once again for this year’s challenge and the money we raise will help Samaritans volunteers continue to provide fantastic services to people who need it most.”

James Woodcock, Corporate Fundraising Manager at Samaritans, said: “Not only will this challenge raise much-needed funds for Samaritans, it will help us raise awareness too. Life can be tough, full of ups and downs, but our emotional support services are here 24 hours a day, every day of the year, for anyone who’s feeling overwhelmed. We wish the team every success on their marathon trek.”
