LBS coast to coast cyclists raise £12,000 for Samaritans
Twenty keen cyclists from Leeds Building Society have raised £12,000 for Samaritans by tackling a coast to coast ride from Whitehaven to Tynemouth.
Supported throughout the event by five colleagues from across the Society, the team representing 12 departments completed the undulating 140-mile ride in very challenging temperatures.
The money raised for Samaritans by Leeds Building Society is being used to enhance the charity’s technology to help its volunteers move faster between phone, email and chat responses.
The Society is aiming to raise £250,000 by March 2020 to pay for new equipment, including laptops, headsets and phones across Samaritans branches. This kit will enable volunteers to move more easily between communication channels and react more quickly to the demand for round the clock emotional support services for anyone who is struggling to cope.
Kevin Mowles, Head of Business Solutions at Leeds Building Society, who led the team, said: “We set ourselves a really tough challenge this year. The route was a tough one in high temperatures, but knowing how much of a positive effect our fundraising is having on Samaritans and those needing help really helped us keep going during the difficult times.
“We all pulled together to help each other reach the finish line and have raised £12,000 for Samaritans as a result. To have people joining forces from across 12 different departments in the Society to get on their bikes and take on this challenge for such a good cause was fantastic to see.
“We’ve been blown away by the generosity of our colleagues and the help we received on the day from our dedicated support team who were with us for every pedal turn.”
