Leeds Building Society AGM raises £8,000 for charitable causes

Leeds Building Society members raised £8,044 for charitable causes by casting votes as part of its annual general meeting (AGM).

The Society donated 10p for every paper vote and 20p for every online vote returned, with members able to choose between the Society’s new charity partner Dementia UK and Leeds Building Society Foundation.

A total of £5,716 was raised for Dementia UK. The remaining £2,329 will be distributed by Leeds Building Society Foundation, which donates up to £1,000 to registered charities around the UK, supporting key community projects.

Richard Fearon, Leeds Building Society’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “The current challenging circumstances we’re all enduring sadly meant members were unable to physically attend our AGM. However, we did have an opportunity to hear directly from our members on a variety of important topics through online and written questions.

“As a building society, we were founded on the principle of people coming together to help one another and our members have once again played a vital role in choosing our national charity partner, Dementia UK.

“Our AGM voting process has helped us get our partnership off to a strong start with more than £5,000 raised for Dementia UK through this event.

“From listening to our members we also know investing in community projects and good causes is important to them. The £2,329 donated to Leeds Building Society Foundation will contribute directly to key charity projects across the UK.”
