From fixed rates to fixing the fells for Leeds Product team

Swapping spreadsheets for spades, our Product team joined a conservation project to help preserve a Lakeland fell for future generations.

Their activities at Coniston Old Man included unearthing historic mining paths and maintaining fell paths and drainage gullies to protect the landscape.

The team were taking advantage of the Society’s volunteering scheme, which allows all colleagues a day’s paid leave each year to help in the community.

The day was led by the ‘Fix the Fells’ team, which is part of the National Trust. Ian Griffiths from the National Trust said: “Coniston Old Man is an iconic Lakeland fell visited and climbed by thousands of people annually. A routine schedule of repair and maintenance is required to counter the effects of human erosion. Fix the Fells work to preserve the fells for future generations to experience, and we’re grateful for the support of Leeds Building Society and their volunteering scheme.”
