Changes to our branch network

31/03/2017

Our branch network is important to us. Branches provide a place where we can help members save for the future, secure a home for their families and provide a face-to-face service. We are committed to providing members with great service and we continue to invest in our branch network, telephone & online services.

However, our members are increasingly using multiple branches, telephone and the internet to operate their accounts. Unfortunately, with these changes in member needs, the use of some locations has declined to an extent that they are no longer sustainable. For this reason we’ve taken the difficult decision to close a number of our branches.

The proposed branches highlighted for closure are: Armley; Beeston; Chapel Allerton; Harehills Road; Street Lane; Boston Spa; Blyth; and Wallsend.

We will prioritise support for those members affected, and we’ll deploy our Vulnerable Customer Group to help them further as required. We are also working closely with affected colleagues to find alternative opportunities.

We have sent letters explaining these closures to all members who hold an account with affected branches, or who have used one or more of these branches within the last 6 months.

If you will be affected by these changes to our branch network and require further support our contact centre is open from 8am-8pm 7 days a week: http://www.leedsbuildingsociety.co.uk/contact-us/

FAQs

Where can I find other Leeds Building Society branches?

You can use our branch finder tool to find alternative branch locations: http://www.leedsbuildingsociety.co.uk/find-a-branch/

Why are you closing these branches?

A number of factors were used to make these decisions:

  • The number of branches located nearby, and the distance to the nearest branch
  • The number and type of transactions taking place at the branch
  • The number of customers also using other Leeds Building Society branches
  • The number of customers visiting each branch
  • The long-term sustainability of the branch
  • The ability of customers to manage their accounts through our website, contact centre and by post
  • Access to other banks / building societies in the local area
  • Transport links to other branches.

What is happening to colleagues who work at these branches?

The Society is striving to find alternative positions for any employees affected by changes to our branch network. We believe the majority of colleagues impacted should be offered an alternative position at a nearby location.

When will the branch closures happen?

We are currently planning to close the affected branches at 5pm on June 30th 2017.

Will other branches be closed?

There are no plans to close further branches at this time. We remain fully committed to a branch network and providing a face-to-face service. That’s why we’ve started a full refurbishment programme of our network, which will be completed this year, creating a modern, more comfortable environment for members.

How do I continue to manage my accounts?

You can continue to manage your accounts by post or by using any of our other branches. Your online accounts will continue to be managed via the Leeds Building Society website.
