Our Community Reward Scheme
is up and running

We've made our first award!

We’re delighted to announce the first round of funding from our Community Reward Scheme. Friends of Sandall Park, nominated by Doncaster parkrun, received the total of £1,500.

The money will go towards a memorial garden created in remembrance of a fellow parkrunner who sadly passed away two years ago.

Working for the community

Friends of Sandall Park are a dedicated group of volunteers who have already carried out a great deal of restoration work around the park on behalf of the local community.

From walking and fitness trails to picnic and play areas, wildlife information boards and benches, they’re making a real difference for residents and visitors alike.

As a result, the park has already won a Green Flag award alongside wins in recent Doncaster in Bloom and Yorkshire in Bloom competitions.

Creating a garden of tranquility

The memorial garden represents the next phase in the park’s development. Once a neglected and slightly overgrown corner, it’s already taking shape as the team has put in bedding plants and planters.

The area still needs seating, fencing and its own entrance. That way people visiting will realise it’s an enclosed space for quiet reflection. And that’s where the money from our Community Reward Scheme will be used: to get the memorial garden up and running.

“Helping Doncaster parkrun and Friends of Sandall Park with their vision of building a memorial garden is a great first project for the Community Reward Scheme. It really embodies the purpose of our partnership, to support and bring together local communities. As a mutual, founded on the principle of people helping people, this is important to us.”

Nikki Marsh, Director of Customer & Digital, Leeds Building Society

“We’re delighted to receive funding from Leeds Building Society, it will support us with our project to build a memorial garden which creates space for private or shared reflection and somewhere visitors to the park can take time out for themselves.”

What is the Community Reward Scheme?

By providing funding and volunteer support, the scheme directly helps projects aimed at improving local parkrun communities. To apply, all we ask is that you’re a UK based 5k parkrunner. Up for it? Take a look at the following video for the full story…

Will you be next?

If your local parkrun community could do with some extra funding, get in touch. Here's what we need to know:

  • Information about the project and why it's important
  • How the funding would make a difference in the local community
  • The amount of time it will take and how much you think it will cost

What types of things can we fund?

The money available from our Community Reward Scheme can be used for all sorts of things. From swings to seating and park maintenance to litter-picking, you name it and we’re here for you.
