Make a mortgage payment

You can make mortgage payments over the phone, using your online banking or by visiting one of our branches.

Over the phone

You can make a payment 24 hours a day by calling our secure automated payment line on 03300 081 604.

What you’ll need:

  1. You’ll need your 10-digit mortgage account number (ending in 80)
  2. The postcode of the property on your account (the one you’re making a payment against)
  3. The debit card you're using to make the payment

For phone payments, there's a payment limit of £100,000.

Online

If you’ve got online banking, it’s easy to make mortgage payments online using a standing order. Use the following details:

Name: This should match the name on your account with us.

Sort code: 40-64-38

Account number: The first 8 numbers of your 10 digit mortgage account number. You can find your account number in your annual statement, your online account, or any recent letters from us.

Reference: You can choose your own reference.

Payments into your account will show in your balance the next working day.

Direct Debits

Creating a direct debit

To set up a direct debit, call us on 03450 505 075 at least 10 working days before you’d like the direct debit to start.

We’ll then set it up for you. If it’s less than 10 working days, the payment may not be set up in time and you’ll have to make a manual payment that month.

Changing your direct debit

Let us know at least 3 working days before your payment is due if you'd like to change it. Call us to make a manual payment (we'll cancel the next direct debit) or set up a new direct debit starting next month.

Overpayments

If you'd like to make an extra mortgage payment above your usual amount, check your terms and conditions first to see if there are any fees you'd need to pay.

You can pay by:

  • Bank transfer e.g. faster payment
  • Card payment in branch or over the phone
  • Cash or cheque in branch

This may also apply to lump sum capital payments. If it's within your terms and conditions, you can use these payments to either reduce your mortgage term or monthly mortgage payments.

Other ways you can use our mortgage payment service:

  • Payments against Fees (e.g. Product Transfer Fees or CHAPS fees)
  • Lump sum capital payments (which will be processed as a capital payment and we'll confirm your new monthly payment in writing)
  • Overpayments (over and above standard monthly amount)
  • Any outstanding arrears (we're here to help if you're having difficulty paying your mortgage. Contacting us to find out what options are available won't affect your credit score)

Confirmation of Payee (CoP)

We use Confirmation of Payee (CoP) which puts your details through a name checking service when you transfer money from a Leeds Building Society account.

It prevents potential fraud and accidentally sending money to the wrong account. This means you're more protected when making payments. You can opt out of CoP in exceptional circumstances.

Please wait 24 hours after opening your account before making a bank transfer, otherwise you might get a notification saying your account details can't be validated. You can also use the debit card option where available.

For most new accounts, you can deposit up to £50,000 as a debit card payment, but your bank might restrict you to a lower amount. The account you're opening might also have a maximum deposit limit.

For maximum deposit limits, please see the balances stated in your product terms and conditions.
