Changing your name
If you’re changing your name, whether it’s because of marriage, divorce or deed poll, we need evidence of the change. You can use any one of the following documents as evidence:
- Marriage Certificate
- Unenrolled or enrolled change of Name Deed / Deed Poll (this must be accompanied by photo identification such as Passport or Driving License)
- Civil Partnership Certificate
- Written Statement of proof of change of name from a professional body e.g. solicitor (this must be accompanied by photo identification such as Passport or Driving License)
- A Decree nisi is acceptable as proof of a change back to a maiden name, if accompanied by a birth certificate.
Sending your documents:
If you're a mortgage customer, you can email us your change of name ID to LBSSecureMortAdmin@leedsbuildingsociety.co.uk. If you're a savings customer, you can take your ID into branch or you can post it to:

Please include your signature, name, address and account number along with a certified copy of the relevant document(s) from the list above when sending us any documents.
Changing your title
If you'd like to change your title, you can write to us at:

Or, you can download, print and complete our Account Change form and send it to the same address.
Our Customer Support team will make the change and email you with confirmation or write to you if we don’t have your email address. You don’t need any documents to change the title on your account. You can choose to update your title to your preferred gender. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t had any medical or surgical changes. If you'd like a gender-neutral title or identify as non-binary, we can change your title to MX.
You can also change your title in branch or over the phone.
To change your address on a savings account:
- Log in and head to ‘personal details’.
- Select ‘change address’. You’ll be taken to a new page where you’ll need to select ‘change address’, then ‘next’.
- Enter the new address details and select ‘next’.
- You’ll receive a One Time Passcode or ‘OTP’. The OTP will automatically be sent to your mobile, but you can choose to receive it by email if you’d prefer.
- After entering the OTP, you’ll get an email confirming your address has been changed once your request has been processed.
To change the address on your mortgage account, please call us on 03450 505 075 (option 2). Lines are open:
- Monday - Friday: 8am-6pm
- Saturday: 9am - 5pm
- Sunday and bank holidays: Closed

A certified copy is an official copy of an original document, such as a marriage certificate, that’s been confirmed as a genuine copy by a qualified person. We'll only accept certified copies from the following people:
- Independent Financial Advisers
- Accountants
- Bank/Building Society Managers
- Leeds Building Society colleague (branch)
- Post Office staff (certification service only)
- Commissioners for Oaths
- General Practitioner / Doctor
- Justice of the Peace
- Practicing solicitor
The certifying party must ensure the certified document includes:
- Official stamp (if applicable)
- Signed name in full
- Profession
- Company address
- Phone number
- The date it was certified
- This statement: ‘I confirm I have seen the original document and this copy is an accurate, unaltered and unedited replica of the original.’
- Log in
- Head to ‘personal details’
- Select ‘change mobile phone or email’
- Enter your new details
- You’ll receive a One Time Passcode (OTP), unless you’re changing a landline
- Enter the OTP
- Select ‘submit’
- You’ll get an email confirming your contact details have been changed
You can call us on 03450 505 075 if you need support with changing your contact details online.
To change your direct debit account details, we need 10 working days notice. To change your name or payment date we need 3 working days notice, but if you request this change 3 working days before payment, your details won't change until the following payment, as the direct debit will be in cycle.
