In 2023, we stayed true to our purpose of helping members to save for and own their homes, contributing to vibrant communities and making a positive impact on the environment. You can watch a short video of our highlights from the year or check out a glimpse of our standout moments:

A place to call home

  • We helped 34,900 people buy a home, including 17,700 first time buyers
  • One in every two mortgages we provided went to first time buyers
  • We were awarded What Mortgage’s Best Shared Ownership lender for the eighth year running
  • We continued to not charge arrears fees and we were one of the first lenders to sign up to the Mortgage Charter

Your savings

  • 122,300 new savings members joined the Society
  • We launched two new savings accounts – the Home Deposit Saver and Shared Ownership Saver
  • We paid savers an average rate of 3.05% compared to a market average of 2.46% - this works out as an extra £110 million in extra interest in our members’ pockets*

Sustainable communities

  • We supported over 247 charities and community groups
  • £339,486 was given to charities through the Leeds Building Society Foundation
  • We raised £267,000 for Dementia UK to fund their Closer to Home clinics
  • We donated £25,000 to the Disasters Emergency Committee after earthquakes hit Turkey and Syria

Our Society

  • Our member satisfaction rate was 94%
  • We had a Trustpilot rating of 4.4 out of 5, based on real members’ experiences
  • We were accredited with the Gold Standard by Inclusive Employers
  • We won the Leading with Purpose award at the Business Culture Awards
  • We had a record 919,000 members

Climate and environment

  • 100% of our waste was diverted from landfill3
  • We partnered with the Energy Savings Trust to launch an online tool that helps members assess the energy performance of their properties
  • We also partnered with Keepmoat to support the first large-scale development of houses built to the Future Homes Standard
